I was under the impression that when Sun had bad news to tell its Solaris
customers that it would use the customer representatives which are its
disposal to act as a focus group. It seemed like they are an ideal group
to help Sun make such messages at least somewhat palatable.

The problem in this case appears to be that Sun was not interested in
giving any advance warning to customers that StarOffice for Solaris x86
would be delayed until Jonathan's vice presidents battled out who was
going to pay for its productization.

Nevermind that Solaris x86 customers expect products to be supported
until officially End Of Life'd with plenty of advance notice,
regardless of how politically difficult it might be to find the funding
for it during these lean times.

That our advocates were unable to break the political log jam to keep
Solaris x86 on the StarOffice release train or even warn of its delay,
is a bug, not a feature.

This has the stench of the same bug that led to Solaris x86's indefinite
delay on January 8 2002.

Who's responsible for fixing this bug and seeing that it does not pop-up
yet again?

John
